Synopsis
The dream of happiness, the dream of success. Two extraordinary Chinese women, beautiful, smart and likable, follow their dreams to the West. Strangers, Jessie Lin and Camille Meng, board the same plane and begin journeys similar in their aspirations and ultimately similar in their eye-opening realizations about life in the West.
Feeling disjointed in their new homes, they look for a way to get on the inside... As a means to connect, Jessie and Camille find that men offer a path to relationships both professionally and personally. Thus they embark on a series of friendships and affairs that take them further ahead on their quest. These relationships offer experiences with a number of wild and crazy guys, both Chinese and Anglo. Their men sometimes offer excitement, sometimes pain, sometimes friendship, and sometimes the promise of love. One thing that all the men offer is sex. And it is sex that eventually complicates things for the women and brings them to their moment of truth: Will they break from the entanglements of love and find a way to forge their own identities in their new worlds? The sub-text of Chinese Chocolate deals with the counter perspective: What are the men in this picture really after... What do they want... Is it merely sex?
